It's a Risky Business, but Somebody's Gotta do it!
A little over 400 years ago The English established their first settlement in Jamestown. Jamestown experienced many difficulties before finally becoming successful. They were faced with starvation, disease, exposure to harsh climates, and conflicts with themselves and Native Americans.
Establishing a colony can be pretty risky. Not only is there a risk of the unknown, but it is a financial risk as well. Currently people are looking ahead and wondering what the future might hold for us. There might be a time when we colonize other planets. This leads us to our topic of discussion.
Questions To Consider:
If we were to begin colonizing space, what problems might we encounter? Would we have any similar difficulties as the Jamestown colonists?

I think one thing the colony might have issue with is food supply. 1. reason is because it would cost a lot just to get the colonist to what ever planet there going to, and to send food up there every month or whenever they run out would cost a lot. And who would pay for it? Another thing is its not like the could grow plants on the soil on which planet there on. You could try to grow it in a pot but I dont know how well that would work. Also they probably dont know about the climates/seasons so they couldnt be prepared for it (if there is a season). So yes i do think that the colony in space would have the same issues as Jamestown colonist.

i think that we may have the same issues that the jamestown colonists had and we would have encountered people who live there. We also would have had to find a way to get by with the new food supply we hav there. Another thing is we dont know the climate is gonna be like so extremes may kill the people who move there so i agree with diablas94.
I think that the major problem would be the weather because no matter where you go the climate will always be different and you have to adapt to that. Then the food supply would be next you would have to show up with little or no food and have to find hunt of grow whatever you can before you stave. This is why it is such a risk to start a colony. I think that every colony will face the same hardships that Jamestown did.

I think that the problems with food storage, government, trade, and medical care if they didnt know how to get the proper materials or help. LIke Jamestown there could easily be diease and all the other things that went wrong in Jamestown.

If we were to colonize space I think the thing that would make it most difficult is the fact that it would be very difficult to get supplies to the colony. Two of those supplies are food and water, which are essential to human life. Also like diablas94 said it would cost a lot to ship all of those supplies to the colonists. The colonists would likely also have some difficulty getting along with eachother and might have conflicts between themselves, just like in Jamestown. Another problem I see with space colinization is the only reason the English made the colony of Jamestown was to make money. Even with a Joint-Stock company the cost of space travel would put a lot of risk on the investors or goverment. Also as of now there are not valuble things on other planets, so not that much money could be raised. So, I do in fact belive that space colonists would have the same problems as colonists as Jamestown. Also unlike Jamestown I do not belive that space colinization is a good way to make money.

I think their would be a problem with forming a government. But i do believe there would be a problem with growing crops and finding a food and water source. So i think it would be a little easier than Jamestown in some ways but actually harder in others.

If we were going to colonize in space, i think some problems we would encounter would be lack of resoures, lack of food or water, and opportinities. I think this new settlement would go through the same problems as Jamestown like any other town that is newly astablished.
i think we would have different conflicts. some things would be easy some would be hard, farming would probably be harder because the soil would be different. It would probably take a long time to adapt.
