All About the Money

By now you've learned that for a region to be successful it must establish a sound economic system based on available resources. In colonial times, New England relied on fishing and industry. The Middle colonies relied on agricultural cash crops such as corn and wheat, but also sustained manufacturing. The Southern colonies found success through the plantation system growing rice, tobacco, and indigo.

Questions to Consider:
In keeping with our theme of the last topic and colonizing space, if we did colonize on other planets what would we base our economic system on? How would the new space colony thrive? What resources would be available to the new space colony?

I think if we colonized in space we would go under a system kind of like a royal colony, but with a few variations. Instead of a king i think we would try something like what we have now with maybe a president and a congress. Depending on what planet we or they colonized on would effect if they would grow in wealth and possession. Maybe the planet could have some valuable mineral that could be worth millions in earth and that colony could grow in wealth and possession. But if they colonized somewhere that didnt have that mineral they would have nothing. They land probably isnt the best land to farm on, and there probably isnt a river with fish in it for them to fish in. So they would have no resources. The colony would probably starve to death or go back to earth.

I think we would base our economic system around the lines of the New England way. Because it focus on work, law, and education. But with that I would add a House of Burgesses because like learned when the colonies first started, a colony can not be ran by one person. I think if we put to gather ideas similar to that, the colony that we are settling will be very sucessful. As for the resources go, it depends on the place we settle. if we settle to a place with good land, we would probley farm. but if we didn't settle in a spot with good land, we would have to find a way to get resoures from earth. If that does not happen, then we would starve to death.

Colonizing on a planet would be difficult for many reasons. First it would be very difficult to find good resources for trade and With no rivers and no good farm land the only thing to trade would be minerals or rocks fpund by digging into the planet. But if the planet didnt have any rocks or minerals worth alot of money, they would run out of money quickly. Also since there are no rivers or farming land they would have very little or no food, causing many people to starve. Now for the economic system i think it would be best to have something like a royal colony because it would be easier to control the planet, also i think having a representative assembly elected by the people would help get the people in the colony involved.

I think that if we colonized on a different planet if would work really good or be a total disaster depending on the resources. The different factors to consider wold be water soil animals and different live. It would take time and hard work to start a new colony.

I believe that finding a good base for an economic system would be very hard. Since we do not know what is on the Moon, or in space we would have to spend alot of money for exploration to find something to base the economy on. If we do find a new resource in space, or on the moon I believe the unknown resource would be very useful on earth and make alot of money. A good way to illistrate how the colony might thrive is by a movie many people have seen, called Avatar. In this movie we colonize the planet of Pandora to search foe a valuble mineral that sells for $20 million per kilogram and is very important on earth, however they run into conflicts with the natives. Now even though there is not any proof of aliens in space we might run into problems that could affect how well the colony thrives. However if there are valuble resources in space I believe that even though it might be hard colonizing space would bring a good economy and the colony would thrive.

I think that if we colonized on another planet it could have a royal or democratic government because both would work. Because the planets vary I think that there would be different resources on each planet. So whatever grows n that planet or lives would be want we get our money from. But what is obvious is the way we money from agriculture woould be very different from Earth
