Current Events
If you need help over the long weekend connecting your event to the Constitution, come here and ask your question. I'll give you an Article, Amendment, or something to think about to point you in the right direction. Remember your current event is a full page. Half the page is a summary of the event, and the other half explains how it relates to the Constitution. Also, please tell me your source and the date.

Hi ;
i was planning on doing the shooting in Tuscon, Arizona. But i dont know how it would relate to the constitution.
This is what i have so far. how could i relate it to the constitution though?
On January 11, 22 year old Jared loughner was arrested at safe way, for the tried murder of US representative Gabrielle Gifford’s. He is being held in the Federal Correctional Institution at Phoenix He was charged in federal court with one count of attempted assassination of a member of congress, two accounts of killing a federal employee, and two counts of attempting to kill a federal employee. Though some believe his sentence my be modified based on the belief he has "Paraniod Schizophrenia".
Good start to your write-up. This actually contains a lot of things you could discuss. First, as a crime the accused (gunman) has rights. Those rights are contained in the 5th Amendment. There are also certain trial rights in the 6th Amendment. The Department of Justice contained in the Executive Branch dealt with the situation and apprehension of the suspect. Since a member of Congress was injured, you could discuss the qualifications she had to meet to be able to run for the House of Representatives. Sorry I didn't get to you sooner, but hope this helps.
are amendments part of the constitution because I want to talk about how people haven't changed their views on guns after the shootings and the right to bear arms.
he House is set to vote on a repeal of President Obama's health care overhaul, fulfilling Republicans' campaign and setting up a clash with the White House and Senate Democrats.

Sorry, I've been swamped all day.
Ok, yes the Amendments are absolutely part of the Constitution so the 2nd Amendment would be great! You could also discuss the Legislative branch and their role on gun laws.
The House's repeal of the Health Care is a great example of how Congress and the President interact although this time it's negative. You can discuss about anything dealing with the powers of Congress, the President's role as Chief Legislator, and the system of checks and balances. Checks and balances are powers each branch has that it can exercise over the others to keep one branch from getting too powerful.
Could we use homework passes on this assignment?
